Dip Dye curtains

You'll need.

Your fabric curtains of a natural fibre such as cotton linen or hemp.

Dye Da Vida fabric dye in the colour of your choice.
Rubber gloves,
2 jars,
Salt,
a bucket,
4 litres boiling hot water &
a chair.

Step 1.

Soak your curtain in warm water.

Step 2.
Make up your dye using the instructions on your Dye da Vida dye package.
Divide the dye into two jars. Pour one jar of dye into a bucket with your boiling hot water.

Step 3.
Drape your fabric over a chair.

Step 4.
Using eye measument, drape one third of the curtain over a chair and immerse 2 thirds into the water and dye.

Step 5.
Leave for 10 minutes.
Remove half of the dyed fabric from the bucket and squeeze water out. Leaving bottom half submerged.

Step 6.
Add the second jar of dye mix to the bucket and stir.

Step 7.
Leave for ten minutes.

Step 8.
Remove from dye bucket, and rinse until water runs clear. Make sure the dyed fabric does not touch the plan undyed top half of your curtain.
Hang on line to dry and ta dah! 3 level dip dyed curtain!

How to use Indigo Dye

You will need.

-Some thing to dye in a natural fabric and a pale colour.

-Gloves
-Dye da Vida Indigo dye vat made as directed in "Making an Indigo Dye Vat"

Step 1.

Wet and soak your fabric.
Put on gloves!

Step 2.

Slowly place your fabric into your indigo vat. Do not make a splash. Slowly submerge.

Step 3.

Leave your fabric immeresed in indigo for 15 to 20 mins. For lighter shades less time in vat.

Step 4.
Carefully remove your fabric from vat.

Step 5. Leave your fabric in open air for 15 mins. The colour should change from green to deep indigo blue.

Step 6. Rinse till water runs clear.

how to make an Indigo vat

You will need

50 grams of Dye Da Vida indigo.
25 grams of caustic soda
40 grams of Dye Da Vida sodium hydrosulphite
a large tub
100mls of cold water
400mls of boiling water
5 litres of warm water
Gloves
A face mask

Step 1.
First you'll need to dissolve your caustic soda by sprinkling it into your 100mls of cold water

Step 2.
pour half of your caustic soda into into your tub with indigo and mix into paste. Then add your 400mls of boiling water and then add rest of caustic soda mix.

Step 3.
Sprinkle 40grams of sodium hydrosulphite on indigo and caustic soda mix.. Wrap in towels and leave for 20mins.

Step 4.
Unwrap indigo and caustic soda mix. and submerge in tub containing 5 litres of warm water.

Step 5.
Dye, dye, dye baby..
